Regina Mercske-Stern was a dental student at the Dental School of Bern. Here she also completed her graduate training in Restorative Dentistry and in Prosthodontics. She became a Specialist in Prosthodontics (SSO), and received the PD degree in Prosthodentics and Implantology. As a Guest Professor she spent one year at the Dental School in Toronto (Prof. Zarb). She has lectured worldwide in 25 countries at international meetings on verious topics, particulary implant, prosthodontics and rehabilitation of the compromised dentition.
Currently she is the Director and Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, University of Bern. The students elected her as teacher of the year.
She is a member of various national and international societies, currently President of the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology (SSOI) and just finished her term as President of the International College of Prosthodontics (ICP). Her activities, both in clinical practice and clinical research, cover the field of oral implantology/implant prosthodontics and geriatric dentistry.
These are represented in various publications, abstracts and book chapters.

From 2002 to 2004 Head of the Section of Periodontology, University of Mainz, Germany. From 2004-2008, Head of Department of Periodontology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Main research interests: Periodontal wound healing and regeneration, clinical trails on reconstructive periodontal therapy, oral biofilm. More than 150 publications in peer reviewed journals, 12 chapters in books, more than 180 lectures on national and international meetings.s
